Energy you can see

Spoon Theory, created by Christine Miserandino to explain life with chronic illness, frames daily energy as a limited number of spoons. Neurodivergent communities, including people with ADHD, widely use the same idea to understand why capacity varies so much from day to day.

The problem with most health apps is the effort they require on bad days. Logging symptoms, writing diary entries, and navigating correlation charts all cost spoons themselves. Stikkteller takes the opposite approach: a pure visual inventory on your home screen. Twelve match icons. Tap to burn one when you spend energy. That is the entire interaction.

How it works

One tap. One match. No typing.

  1. 1
    Wake up with 12 matches

Your matchbox refills at local midnight. The big number at the top shows how many remain.

  2. 2
Tap the matchbox to spend one

Brushed your teeth? Tap once. Attended a meeting? Tap three. A match rises, strikes, and burns, a satisfying physical gesture instead of a form to fill out.

  3. 3
See what's left, and stop when you're done

When the counter hits zero, the box fades and a warm sunset marks a day well spent. No guilt, no backlog, no data to review tomorrow.

Built for low-energy days

Zero text entry

No diary, no symptom log, no typing on brain-fog days. Just tap the matchbox.

No history or charts

No trend lines, no correlation reports, no paywalled analytics. Only today's remaining matches.

ADHD & chronic illness friendly

Making energy visible helps you pace yourself, plan rest, and communicate limits, without the overhead of a full health tracker.

Private by design

Your match count stays on your device. No account, no behavioural tracking, no personal data on our servers.

Frequently asked questions

What is Stikkteller?
Stikkteller is a daily energy budget app for iOS and Android. You start each day with 12 matches in a matchbox. When you spend energy, brushing your teeth, attending a meeting, making a decision, you pull a match and watch it burn. The number at the top shows how many matches remain. No text entry, no history, no charts.
Who is Stikkteller for?
Stikkteller is built for people with ADHD, chronic illness, and fatigue who use Spoon Theory (or similar energy metaphors) to manage limited daily capacity. It is especially helpful on low-energy days when traditional health apps feel too heavy, too much typing, too many screens, too much data to maintain.
How does visual energy tracking help?
Research and lived experience from the ADHD and chronic illness communities show that making energy visible helps you pace yourself, plan rest, and avoid overextending. Spoon Theory frames daily capacity as a finite budget; Stikkteller uses burning matches instead of spoons. Each tap is a physical gesture, not a form to fill out, so you can check in even when executive function is low.
How is Stikkteller different from Bearable or SpoonWise?
Bearable and SpoonWise are comprehensive health trackers with symptom logs, correlations, and diary features. Stikkteller deliberately does none of that. There is no historical logging, no data correlation, and no text entry. It is a pure inventory bar, a direct mirror of how much energy you have left right now.
Is Stikkteller free?
Yes. Stikkteller is free to use forever, with the same WinRAR-style honor system as other U-Things apps, an optional one-time unlock or low subscription to support development, but nothing blocked if you do not pay.
Where can I get Stikkteller?
Stikkteller is available now on Google Play. The App Store version is coming soon.
Does Stikkteller need an account?
No. There is no sign-up, no onboarding, and no login. Your match count stays on your device. The app refills to 12 matches at local midnight each day.
